Ballot Measure 17-119 – What You Need to Know

As the election draws near, it’s essential to focus on the four key areas Ballot Measure 17-119 would address across our three campuses. This measure asks voters to approve a $60.3 million investment in the college, which would be supplemented by $15 million in state matching grants if passed.

The measure aims to enhance our educational facilities and infrastructure to better serve our students and staff.

  1. Meeting Local Demand for Skilled Workers:
Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) facilities lack the space for hands-on learning and the capacity to expand workforce training programs in fields like automotive, commercial truck driving, pre-nursing, welding, manufacturing and EMT, all crucial to Rogue Valley employers and the community.
  2. Improving Safety and Security:
All three campuses require critical safety and security upgrades, including updated camera systems and enhanced lockdown capabilities.
  3. Updating Learning Environments:
Classrooms, labs and technology need upgrades to support student workforce training effectively.
  4. Repairing Aging Buildings:
Many building systems, such as roofs, siding and HVAC, have reached the end of their lifespan and need replacement.

Financial Considerations

In Jackson County, the measure would maintain the existing tax rate of $0.13 per $1,000 of assessed property value. In Josephine County new bonds are estimated to raise the rate by $.09, bringing the total rate to $0.13 per $1,000 of assessed property value beginning in 2025.
