Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)—a month dedicated to raising awareness and promoting education about domestic violence—its causes, who it impacts, how to tell if you or someone you know is affected by it, and how to get help.

Please join the Counseling Department in bringing awareness to domestic violence during the month of October. We will host media events via the RCC Campus App, a few in-person events at Redwood Campus, as well as a recorded virtual event. There will be four chances for currently enrolled students to win a $25 gift card to a variety of locations, courtesy of Associated Student Government, for participation in the events. We encourage all staff and faculty to participate.

  1. Purple Thursday: On Thursday, October 5, wear the color purple (can be any item of clothing, a purple ribbon, purple hair, nails or makeup) and post a picture of yourself to the RCC Campus App with any of the following hashtags: #DVAM2023 or #Every1KnowsSome1. The color purple is the official color of DVAM. A winner will be selected at random.
  2. Week of October 9-13: Post a picture of a signed community pledge (see the counseling webpage) on the app. A winner will be selected at random.
  3. Week of October 17-21: Coloring contest. Post a picture on the app of your completed coloring sheet (see counseling webpage). The one with the most likes wins.
  4. Purple Thursday: On Thursday, October 19, wear the color purple (can be any item of clothing, a purple ribbon, purple hair, nails or makeup) and post a picture of yourself to the RCC Campus App with any of the following hashtags: #DVAM2023 or #Every1KnowsSome1. A winner will be selected at random.
