In our continuous journey to safeguard our college’s digital landscape, the Information Technology department is pleased to share an important update that further fortifies our email security. With email being a common entry point for security threats, we are reinforcing our defenses to keep our community safe.
To this end, we’ve enhanced our cybersecurity infrastructure by incorporating Sophos Advanced Email Protection alongside our trusted Sophos security suite that has been diligently protecting our computers and servers. This sophisticated system vigilantly scans incoming email, ensuring you receive only trustworthy messages.
Sophos Advanced Email Protection shields us by:
Identifying Spam: Sophos meticulously examines emails for spam indicators, halting suspicious bulk messages in their tracks.
Blocking Viruses: All emails undergo a thorough scan to detect and isolate viruses, safeguarding your digital environment.
Thwarting Phishing: Sophos employs advanced detection to ward off phishing attempts, keeping your personal information secure.
Analyzing for Attacks: The system checks URLs within emails against databases of known threats, stopping potential attacks before they reach your inbox.
Should Sophos find an email that raises concerns, it will not deliver it directly to you. We value the importance of every communication. To ensure you don’t miss out:
Emails with a slight possibility of being spam will be marked with [Potential Spam Email] in the subject line. Sophos allows these messages through to ensure you have the opportunity to review them.
For more definitive threats, you can inspect and, if needed, authorize the delivery of these messages via the Self-Service Portal at Sophos Central Self-Service. The IT department has prepared an easy-to-follow guide to assist you with this process.
Our IT experts have thoughtfully tailored these protections to address the unique cyber challenges we face. We invite you to become acquainted with the Self-Service Portal and to connect with the IT department should you need guidance or have inquiries.
We must also address an email that was recently sent with the subject “You’ve joined the SophosEmailSecurity group” — please accept our apologies for any confusion this might have caused. This message was an automated part of the setup process, intended for active staff and faculty members as a part of this security group.
If this email has made its way to your inbox, we ask that you simply delete it. Rest assured, no further action is required on your part. We’re grateful for your understanding and patience as we implement these vital security enhancements.
Your cooperation is invaluable as we advance our commitment to a robust, secure email environment. The IT department is dedicated to supporting a digitally secure experience for all at RCC.
