Joseph Maurer officially started at RCC in his role as director of Student Engagement on June 3, although some of you may have met him when he joined us for spring inservice in May.
Joseph is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he lived until setting out for graduate school in Denver, Colorado. The Rocky Mountains gave him a taste for exploration, leading him to move around the country over the years – including stints in New Mexico, Texas, Ohio and Oregon (his home for the last 12 years).
Joseph has two sons – Nicholas, who graduated from OIT in 2020 and then moved back to Houston, Texas to live and work as a veterinary assistant, and Stephen, who is finishing his sophomore year at OSU studying mathematics.
With too many hobbies and interests to fit into a normal day, Joseph focuses his free time on kayaking, cycling, wood turning, reading and cuddling up with his two kittens, Luna and Neville. He just moved to Grants Pass from Klamath Falls, where he most recently served as the director of A Family Gathering Place Relief Nursery, a program serving children under six who have been through trauma, along with their families.
Joseph is beyond excited to be back in the student development realm, having served 24 years in higher education before working with children and families for the last few years. Please say hello when you see him around campus!
