Local Transportation Industry Benefits from RCC’s Training Programs

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Oct. 14, 2024) – Rogue Community College’s (RCC) industry partnerships aim to help meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the transportation industry and retain local jobs in the Rogue Valley. RCC’s transportation programs, including commercial truck driver training and automotive and diesel technologies, have seen a significant rise in enrollment.

“As the need for well-trained professionals continues to rise, transportation jobs—ranging from truck drivers to mechanics—are critical in keeping goods and services flowing through the valley and beyond. RCC’s programs equip students with the skills needed to pursue in-demand careers, while ensuring local industries benefit from a steady pipeline of talent,” said Mike Card, president of Combined Transport.

Through its involvement in the Rogue Workforce Partnership and the Good Jobs Challenge grant, RCC has fostered partnerships with local businesses and carriers to address the national shortage of approximately 78,000 truck drivers. These partnerships provide training solutions through hands-on learning and targeted CDL and technical training programs.

“RCC’s degree programs offer students practical curriculum that can be immediately transferred to real-world occupations,” said Roe Motors General Manager Steve Roe. “These partnerships are essential for preparing students for success in the transportation industry, while also providing local businesses with a highly skilled workforce.”

RCC offers practical, hands-on programs designed to prepare students for immediate employment in high-demand industries. From transportation and healthcare to manufacturing and technology, RCC’s career-focused curriculum is built to equip students with the knowledge, certifications and real-world experience necessary to succeed in their chosen fields.

“Our goal is to give people in our community the opportunity to pursue well-paying careers in a critical industry,” said RCC’s Dean of Workforce Development Lisa Parks. “The partnerships we’ve established are vital to maintaining the economic stability of the Rogue Valley and beyond, while also helping our students thrive in essential roles.”

Through industry partnerships with local businesses and workforce organizations, RCC’s goal is to ensure students receive state-of-the-art training that aligns with industry needs, fostering economic growth and workforce development in the Rogue Valley.
