Happy October! 🍂 There’s a lot going on this fall at RCC. Please take a few minutes to see if you’re interested in any of these upcoming events:

Let’s connect! The Student Huddle (Zoom) is an informal forum hosted by the Associated Student Government (ASG) where students can share their experiences, ask questions, voice their opinions, and listen in to receive valuable information and resources. Students who attend are entered into a drawing for a $200, $100 or $50 gift card at the end of the term. The more you attend, the more chances to win! Fall Clothing Sale (RVC & RWC): Items are just $1 to $3 at the annual AAWCC Fall Clothing Sale. Shop Riverside Campus in the HEC-129 on Oct. 10 (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and Oct. 11 (8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.), and in the Redwood Campus Student Center on Oct. 11 (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) and Oct. 12 (8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). The Creation of Hispanics (Zoom): Join a fun and educational performance that explores the beauty, complexity, similarities and, most importantly, the differences that are too often homogenized into the terms “Latino/a,” “Latinx” and “Hispanic.” Hosted by the Diversity Programming Board, the presentation will be Tuesday, Oct. 10 from noon-1 p.m. Zoom meeting ID:  982 5103 8409.

College Fair (TRC): Thinking about transferring to continue your education? Representatives from 55 colleges will be at Table Rock Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 9-11:30 a.m. See the list of colleges and register here

Academic Standing Requirement (ASR) & Retention Workshop (Zoom): What is RCC’s Academic Standing Requirement? What does it mean to be on Alert I? Alert II? Academic Suspension? Join RCC counselor Shelly Hohl on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. to learn the criteria that keep you in “good standing,” as well as ideas if you find yourself hitting roadblocks in your educational journey. Blood Drive (TRC): The American Red Cross will be at Table Rock Campus (A-184) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 for a blood drive, hosted by the Ospreys Society student club. Donate blood and help save a life! Walk-ins are welcome or click to sign up

Fiesta Latina & Club Days (RVC & RWC) are an opportunity to learn more about RCC student clubs and celebrate Latinx cultures. Stop by for music, crafts, club info and FREE LUNCH. All are welcome! The event will be in the Redwood Campus Student Center on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from noon-2 p.m. and at the Riverside Campus HEC Room 127 on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from noon-2 p.m. 


Domestic Violence Awareness 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The RCC Counseling Department is hosting a series of domestic violence awareness events at Redwood Campus and on the campus app.

Four events are planned on the RCC app. Current students who participate have a chance to win one of four $25 gift cards: 

  • Purple Thursday: Oct. 5 and Oct. 19, wear purple (any item of clothing, a purple ribbon, purple hair, etc.) and post a pic of yourself to the app with the hashtag #DVAM2023 or #Every1KnowsSome1. One winner will be selected at random for each event. 
  • Week of Oct. 9 -13: Post a pic of a signed community pledge on the app. A winner will be selected at random. 
  • Week of Oct. 17-21: Coloring contest. Post a pic on the app of your completed coloring sheet. The picture with the most “likes” wins. 

In-Person Events (RWC): 

  • Hour of Power: Monday, Oct. 9 at noon in the Student Center. Join counselor Julia Fisher (she/her) and come together as a community in support of survivors of domestic violence. Survivors and supporters welcome. We will enjoy each other’s company and have fun with coloring sheets and purple nail polish. The Women’s Crisis Support Team will have a table and an advocate at the event. 
  • Domestic Violence in LGBTQIA+ Relationships: Tuesday, Oct. 24 at noon in the Student Center. Counselor Julia Fisher (she/her) and RCC student Jesslynn Guiley (she/they) will discuss how DV can show up in queer relationships, additional barriers that queer folx may face and resources for support.
