The Rogue Community College Ospreys men’s soccer program clinched their second NWAC South Region championship on Wednesday, Oct. 18 in a 2-0 win over Portland Community College.
The championship clinches a home playoff game in the NWAC Elite Eight on Saturday, Nov. 4. Edgar Lopez Ramirez had a goal and an assist, Elias Castro had a goal and Lucas Houghton picked up an assist in the win.
The Ospreys (9-3-1, 9-2) were on the road looking to lock down their second championship in program history. They did just that with another clean sheet and solid offensive performance against Portland (6-7-1, 5-6-1). They couldn’t find the net during the first half even with a variety of shots but got the scoring started in the 54th minute when Edgar Lopez Ramirez played the ball to Elias Castro who sent it home. Lopez Ramirez would get his own goal off an assist from Lucas Houghton in the 82’ to put the match away.
The Ospreys earn a spot in the Elite Eight of the NWAC Sports Soccer Championships and will host on Saturday, Nov. 4. They have three games remaining in the regular season.
