New CNA2 Program Provides Opportunity for Nursing Assistants to Elevate Their Careers and Expand Their Skillset

Rogue Community College announces the approval of its Certified Nursing Assistant 2 (CNA2) program, which opens new doors for CNAs who aspire to enhance their skills and create more opportunities for professional growth.

Registration is now open for the first CNA2 cohort that starts in February. The program is designed to meet the rigorous standards set by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) and enable students to advance from CNA1 to a level two certification. To be eligible for entry into the program, applicants must possess an active CNA1 certificate.

Comprehensive Training Combined with Real Word Experience

RCC strives to make the program as accessible to as many students as possible. With a tuition investment of $1,295, the CNA2 program provides students with thorough training that aligns with industry standards and helps prepare them for a successful and meaningful career in nursing. Additionally, nursing students benefit from a well-rounded curriculum that covers crucial aspects of healthcare and prepares them to excel in diverse settings.

Throughout the program, students delve into essential topics such as how to collaborate with the healthcare team, nutrition methods, safety risks and emergency care, legal and ethical issues, physical and mental disease processes, observation and reporting, documentation, infection control and interpersonal skills.

Students gain practical experience through 88 hours of training that includes online and in-person components. The first 60 hours include 35 hours of online coursework, allowing students to study at their own pace, and 25 hours of in-person lab training at RCC’s state-of-the-art Health Professions Center —conveniently located at the Table Rock Campus in White City or the Redwood Campus in Grants Pass.

As part of the program, students will have the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world scenarios during 28 hours of hands-on, supervised clinical training at a local healthcare facility. Clinical sites are in Josephine or Jackson County, ensuring a well-rounded and practical learning experience.

At the end of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion from RCC and enter the CNA2 Registry with OSBN, providing official recognition of their advanced training.

Career Advancement Opportunities

The CNA2 program allows nursing students to gain specialized knowledge and skills that help them grow in their careers, discover new job opportunities and increase their earning potential. The program positively impacts the local economy, as Southern Oregon has two large hospital systems — Providence Medford Medical Center and Asante — with a variety of employment opportunities available.
