RCC Alum Lauded for Community Contributions

Jackson and Josephine counties – The Rogue Community College Foundation is awarding Providence employee Daniel Schram its distinguished 2023 Outstanding Alumni Award, with the formal presentation slated for May 12 during the RCC employee inservice.

Daniel B. Schram works to aid emergency room visitors who need care beyond their medical interventions.

The award honors a single RCC graduate each year who demonstrates success in their profession, success in their community and significant contributions to the betterment of society through involvement in their community. Schram earned an associate degree in criminal justice at RCC in 1998 and later completed his bachelor’s degree in business management at Northwest Christian University.

Schram has served as a deputy sheriff, parole/probation officer, field training officer, survival skills and police academy instructor, and as the supervisor of field operations in Lincoln County’s parole office. In July 2022, he began work with Providence Medford Medical Center as an Emergency Department Outreach Specialist. Schram also has been a longtime volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America as den leader and assistant scoutmaster, and a leader with Special Olympics.

According to nominators Becky Wilkinson, program manager, and Mikaila Maher, program supervisor, both of Providence Health & Services, Schram has been “absolutely instrumental in the incredibly successful launch of Providence’s Better Outcomes through Bridges (BOB) outreach program in Southern Oregon.” Schram’s work with BOB aids individuals who face significant behavioral and medical challenges resulting in repeated use of emergency room services for non-emergent situations.

“He has already made incredible impacts in the lives of the 74 clients he served since joining us in July 2022. Some of these impacts include helping countless community members connect to shelters, mental health and substance use resources, and building strong community partnerships and creative solutions to care for clients who have previously fallen through society’s safety nets,” noted Wilkinson and Maher.

“The RCC Foundation is committed to honoring our graduates who give so much to our communities and began this award in 2008 to celebrate the positive impacts of our alumni,” said Anna Manley, interim executive director of the Foundation. “Daniel is a great example of the high caliber of graduates RCC aids while on their career journey. We are so proud of all that he contributes to our region and look forward to hearing his presentation when he speaks at the RCC President’s Circle event in September.”

Schram has lived in the Rogue Valley for 40 years, having spent a majority of those years in the Grants Pass area with the exception of five years he spent in Newport, Oregon. He has also started a small business with his son and daughter shaping hats and is dedicated to assisting his son’s work to become an Eagle Scout.

“Daniel has done excellent work spreading awareness of community social determinant of health needs internally among Providence staff and externally, such as his most recent presentation with the Chamber of Commerce and other various community partners in the community,” added Wilkinson and Maher.
