In order to protect the health and well-being or our campus communities during the coronavirus pandemic, Rogue Community College President Cathy Kemper-Pelle this afternoon announced significant changes to the college’s spring schedule. While college services will remain open, spring break for students will be extended by one week, beginning March 23. Spring term will begin April 6.
“Slowing the spread of this virus helps ensure that our health care systems are not overwhelmed and able to respond to all community health care needs in a timely and effective way,” Kemper-Pelle wrote in an email to faculty and staff.
Winter term finals week will proceed as scheduled. Faculty are encouraged to move exams online where feasible. Students should contact their instructors for details.
Campus services, including the bookstore, will remain open for normally scheduled hours.
The first two weeks of spring term will be taught online for all classes. Faculty and staff are working now on making arrangements. Students will be informed before the term begins.
RCC computer labs will be available for students to access. In addition, members of the Southern Oregon Higher Education Consortium – RCC, Southern Oregon University, Klamath Community College and Oregon Tech – have agreed to allow each other’s students to use their computer labs and WiFi networks as needed.
RCC had previously announced a number of preventive measures, effective through April 30:
- Limited all non-essential meetings and travel.
- Canceled events, activities and gatherings of more than 75 people, as well as those that do not allow participants to maintain a distance of three feet from each other.
- Increased sanitizing of public areas, classrooms and labs.
- Added additional sanitizing stations and signage encouraging students and employees to wash their hands frequently.
