Last week our Board of Education voted to approve placing a bond on the ballot this November. If this bond passes, it will be the single largest investment to support RCC’s mission in our college’s history. It will make uniform across our service district the current tax rate we have in Jackson County. If passed, bond funds will bring the college about $60 million and an additional $15 million in state support requiring matching funds. What does this historic investment get our students?
What the bond is invested in:
- CTE programs including
- Apprenticeship
- Diesel
- Commercial Truck Driving
- Pre-nursing
- Welding
- Manufacturing
- Automotive
- EMT
- Healthcare
- Improving safety and security at all campuses
- Modernizing the Student Success Center and classrooms at Riverside Campus
- Accessibility improvements across all campuses
- Building improvements to extend the lifespan of
- Energy efficiency systems
- HVAC systems
- Roofs
How you can talk about the bond:
This is a reminder that although many of us are excited by the prospect of meeting our students’ needs, there are things we are legally barred from doing on work time, including advocating for a bond in any way. You are allowed to provide information about the bond to curious minds, but you are not allowed to tell someone “yes, please vote for the bond” or “no, do not vote for this bond” during work hours. For a comprehensive list of political speech, please see this document from the state of Oregon.
A special Chat with Randy is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 at 2 p.m. to share more details on the scope of the bond and college information strategy. Please attend so you can learn more about this important bond measure.
