The Rogue Community College Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill an interim seat on the board representing Zone 3 of the RCC District in Jackson County. The appointee will replace Shawn Hogan who did not seek re-election. Hogan, vice president of engineering for Linx Technologies, was elected to the board in 2017 and served as board chair for 2020-21.
Four seats on the board were open in the May 18 election. Incumbents Pat Fahey, Roger Stokes and Maria Ramos Underwood retained their seats, but no candidate filed for Zone 3. The top write-in candidate was deemed ineligible for election due to residency.
Eligible candidates must reside in Zone 3 of the RCC District, generally described as northwest Jackson County including Central Point, Gold Hill, Rogue River and Sams Valley. Interested parties should contact the Jackson County Elections office at 541-774-6148 to determine residency eligibility. RCC District zone maps are available at roguecc.edu/board.
The position will remain open until filled, with screening scheduled to begin in mid to late August. The interim appointment runs through the month of June following the next regular district election, currently set for May 2023. At that time, the elected candidate will serve the remainder of the four-year term, which expires June 30, 2025.
Eligible candidates will be interviewed and appointed by current board members as directed by ORS 341.335(3). The seven-member board is responsible for programs, budgets, policies and college contracts. The college president reports directly to the board and, through her administrative staff, carries out board policies at the college. Board meetings are held in the afternoon of the third Tuesday of each month with periodic special meetings. These meetings rotate between the RCC campuses in Grants Pass and White City, as well as via Zoom.
