RCC’s new Academic Forgiveness policy gives students who previously received non-passing grades an opportunity for a fresh start, especially those pursuing a new major or returning to RCC after a break of two years or more.
Eligible students can submit the Academic Forgiveness Request form if they meet one of these criteria:
- Returned to RCC after at least two years and completed at least 12 credits toward an associate degree (or 25% of required coursework for a certificate) with grades of C- or higher.
- Changed their major and completed at least 12 credits toward an associate degree (or 25% of required coursework for a certificate) in the new major with grades of C- or higher.
- Seeking forgiveness for a term that occurred at least five years before the date of the appeal.
Under Academic Forgiveness, all grades and credits for the specified term are excluded from cumulative GPA calculations but remain on the transcript marked as “excluded.” Forgiveness is granted only once and cannot be reversed once completed.
Note: Excluded credits are still counted in PACE progression calculations, affecting Financial Aid’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status. For more details, refer to AP 4260 Academic Forgiveness.
