Swaran: The Color of My Skin

SwarenMy family moved to America on September of 2001, right after 9/11. My dad wore a turban so when we were out, we would always receive dirty looks. When I started middle school, I began to feel really uncomfortable with the color of my skin, even though I never really showed it. I joined band in the 5th grade and continued with it in high school with regular concert and marching band. I finally began to feel more and more comfortable with who I am. Meeting people with similar interests helped a lot. Because I went through those phases of being uncomfortable with myself, I blossomed into a woman who loves and accepts everyone no matter how different they are.
